How it works About FAQ Journal

Questions

The approach

Do I need to know anything about art? +

No, and that is deliberate. A pack is built so that a parent with no background in art can guide their child with confidence - the parent guide walks you through each step. Your willingness to wonder alongside your child matters far more than any expertise.

What age is this for? +

The work suits children from about 4 and up, and is made to flex across ages. Younger children do the hands-on work and look at the paintings; older children go further into the ideas. A family with children of different ages can use one pack across all of them.

What's the thinking behind the activities? +

The child does the real work, never assembling a result decided in advance. The hand and the mind work together. Difficulty is kept to one thing at a time, so a child can meet it and succeed. And the work is open-ended, with no single right outcome to reach. Every pack is checked before it ships by a certified Montessori educator and a certified art teacher - one for how a child is asked to work, one for the art - whose names appear inside.

Is this just craft? +

No. A craft kit asks a child to assemble a result decided in advance. Our work asks a child to make real decisions - what shape, what colour, what arrangement - with no single right outcome. That difference is the whole point.

The practicalities

What's inside a pack? +

A pack is two things: the Wonderbook and a looking journal. The Wonderbook holds the heart of the month - a life of the artist told for children, a parent guide, a month of hands-on work, a playlist, and prompts for galleries and books to find. The looking journal is where your child's thinking is kept, and returned to.

What materials do I need? +

Almost everything is something you already have - paper, scissors, a few brushes, a pencil, some paint, some glue. Where a pack asks for anything beyond the ordinary, we tell you exactly what to find and where to find it cheaply. We do not sell a separate kit you have to buy.

How much time does it take? +

As much or as little as suits you. The work is made to be done a little each day, or in a longer stretch at the weekend. It fits the rhythm of your home rather than asking for a fixed schedule.

Is it physical or digital? +

It is digital. Each month you download the Wonderbook and print at home the pages your child will work on - so a pack reaches you the day it is ready, wherever you are, with nothing to wait for in the post.

Can I share a pack with a friend? +

Each pack is licensed for your own household, so please do not pass the files on. If a friend loves what you are doing, send them to us rather than the files - every subscription keeps the work going, and 10% of it goes to children's education.

Can I use this with a co-op or a class? +

A pack is for a single household. If you are a school, a co-op, or any group teaching children beyond your own family, there is a classroom licence - write to us and we will gladly arrange one.

Can you really use these artworks? +

Yes. We work with artists who lived long ago, whose work is in the public domain and belongs to everyone. We make no claim over the paintings themselves - only over the writing, the thinking, and the design we build around them.
